Insurance has its own language.
I'll translate it.

Whether it's Medicaid, Marketplace, coverage for 65 and over, or the plan you already have through work, I'll walk you through it in plain English, for free, with no pressure to buy anything.

How I Can Help

Five kinds of questions I hear most

If you're not sure where you fit, that's normal. That's what the free conversation is for.

Medicaid questions

What it actually covers, and whether you or your family qualify.

Marketplace / ACA plans

How they work, what they actually cost, and how to enroll.

Turning 65 or Retiring

Senior health insurance explained, whether you're turning 65, already 65+, or planning to retire, and picking what fits.

Free group plan review

I'll explain what you already have through work, in plain English.

Marketplace sign-up help

If you need coverage, I'll walk you through enrolling, step by step.

Plain-English, always

No jargon left untranslated. If you don't follow something, we slow down.

Beyond Picking a Plan

The stuff people don't think to ask about

Choosing a plan is only half of it. Here's what I check and handle beyond the paperwork.

IN-NETWORK? → I'll check whether your current doctors accept the plan, or find ones nearby who do.
LANGUAGE MATCH → I confirm the office speaks the language you're most comfortable in, before you book anything.
HIGH DEDUCTIBLE → I'll show you supplemental options before you touch savings, credit cards, or a loan.

How It Works

Three steps, no pressure at any of them

1

Call or text

Reach out with whatever question you have, big or small, even "I'm not even sure what to ask."

2

We talk it through

I'll explain your options in plain language. Free, unhurried, and in the language you're most comfortable in.

3

You decide

Keep what you have, enroll in something new, or just walk away with answers. Your call, always.

Oscar Aponte-Gil, independent health insurance broker

Meet Gil

Oscar Aponte-Gil

I'm an independent, licensed insurance broker based in Metro Detroit. I help people make sense of Medicaid, the ACA Marketplace, and senior health insurance for anyone 65+ or planning to retire. I also review employer group plans for free, even if you're not looking to change anything.

I don't work for one insurance company. Because I'm independent, when I compare plans across carriers, I'm actually comparing them, not quietly steering you toward whichever one signs my paycheck.

My job isn't to sell you something. It's to make sure you actually understand what you have, or what you're eligible for, before you decide anything.

Frequently Asked

More things people usually ask

Is this really free?

Yes. I'm paid by the insurance company if you enroll in a plan through me, never by you. There's no cost or obligation just to talk.

Do I have to switch plans to talk to you?

No. I can review what you already have and explain it clearly, even if you never change a thing.

Is Medicaid the same as health coverage for people 65 and over?

No. Medicaid is based mainly on income. Senior coverage is based on age (65+) or certain disabilities, and some people qualify for both. I can help you figure out which applies to you.

My paperwork is in English and I'm more comfortable in Spanish. Can you still help?

Yes. We can talk through everything in Spanish, and I'll help you understand any English documents too.

Are Obamacare, the ACA, the Marketplace, and HealthCare.gov different things?

No. "Obamacare" is just the nickname for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the law that created the Marketplace. HealthCare.gov is simply the federal website used to shop it. They're all the same program.

I have a pre-existing condition. Can I still get covered?

Yes. ACA Marketplace plans are legally required to cover pre-existing conditions, they can't deny you or charge you more for your health history.
